Prokidz is Protea Hotels' family programme aimed at ensuring that the whole family is entertained, well-looked after and has fun during your well-deserved break! We believe that happy children ensure relaxed parents. Relaxed parents have a far more enjoyable holiday and that is our goal - your ultimate enjoyment! The Prokidz programme has been designed for our younger Protea visitors up to the age of 12 and includes the following facilities and services to ensure your children feel special and are entertained throughout the day and evening (so that you can enjoy your break ?):
  • Prokidz registration form on check-in (so we know what your kids want!)
  • Prokidz kiddies welcome pack and gift in room on arrival. A selection of board games are available at our reception desks
  • Our Prokidz restaurants offer childrens' menus and colour-in pages with crayons (so that you can have a relaxed dinner)
  • Babysitting facilities so that you can enjoy a night out with the peace of mind that your children are safe and well looked after.
All participating Prokidz hotels also offer amazing kiddies programmes during school holidays! The kiddies holiday programmes include activities such as face painting, jumping castles, mini golf, volley ball, treasure hunts, fun sports contests and much more. All kiddies programmes are supervised by professional child minders. It is important to us that not only do our parents enjoy their well-deserved time away, but the kids do too! Terms and Conditions

Exploring the Cape West Coast

Imagine walking along a beach, sand between your toes and the smell of the ocean each time you take a breath. Discover immaculate and spectacular beaches along the West Coast of South Africa. Travel along the West Coast and also discover the majestic Cederberg Mountains, small fishing villages, historic towns and the most beautiful carpet of flowers in spring time. Planning on staying for a while, book your accommodation in one of the traditional white washed cottages that can be found dotted along the coast. If you decide to travel along the West Coast, the route follows from Cape Town up to the border with the Northern Cape. Found along the coastline you can experience the West Coast lifestyle by visiting all the local fishing villages such as, Saldanha, Lambert’s Bay and Paternoster.

Melkbos, Cape Town

Melkbos is a sea side village located on the West Coast Way Culture Route. The area has all you could ask for form delectable restaurants to five star accommodations. The Melkbosstrand beach is a world class Blue Flag Beach where safety, cleanliness, accessibility and environment standards are high on the list. A great beach for water sports like kite surfing.Other attractions include the ‘The South African Airforce Museum’ and get some outdoor exercise hiking in the Koeberg Nature Reserve. Have fun sandboarding on the white dunes in Atlantis, if you don’t mind sand in your shoes, shirt, hair and basically everywhere. There are no shortage of backpackers in Cape Town, although accommodation in Melkbos is not a problem with over 72 places to stay and that is only the self-catering options. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to guest houses and holiday homes where you can relax and enjoy your stay.


Darling is a part of South Africa’s best floral region. The area offers hundreds of flowering plants that burst into colour during the spring season. You must pay a visit to the Darling museum; the experience will transport you way back to the 18th century with their beautiful displays. If you don’t know already, Darling is the home of Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout. The old Darling station has been given a facelift and a new name, Evita se Perron.  This cabaret theatre and restaurant was created by the famous Pieter-Dirk Uys. Here you can enjoy many shows in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. There are plenty of wonderful eating places and accommodation venues. Why not rest your weary feet at the Darling Lodge Guest House that is a wonderfully renovated Victorian home. Enjoy some much needed peace in a beautiful tranquil setting that can be found in the heart of Darling. Travel and explore and enjoy all that Darling has to offer.

West Coast Fossil Park

The west Coast Fossil Park can be found close to Langebaan. Take a look at different fossils from sabre toothed to short-necked giraffes. This park offers an intellectual and fascinating journey back in time.

West Coast National Park

There are a lot of things to do here and the area is a great place for hikers, mountain bikers and nature lovers. The Park is located about 120km north of Cape Town and offers nature at its best. The Langebaan Lagoon is the centre of attraction in the area and provides a great place for visitors to swim, picnic, kayak and sail. Tours to the West Coast National Park can be reserved at the travel centre at Ashanti Backpackers in Cape Town. Jo Anne’s beach Cottage: This self-catering cottage offers accommodation that is walking distance to the beautiful Lagoon. Exclusive and with high ratings, the cottage should definitely be on your list of places to stay.

Thali Thali Game Lodge

The Lodge is a privately owned game and fynbos reserve in Langebaan. You can view their wide variety of wild buck, such as kudu, springbok, eland and lots more. They have no predatory animals in the park so you are welcome to explore the area on foot without the worry of being eaten. There are game drives available or you can walk the self-guided tour along one of the West Coast Nature trails. They provide delicious food at the game Lodge’s Restaurant and the Lodge is perfect for weddings and conferences. You can relax and find solitude in one of their accommodation facilities which include, the farmhouse, self-catering chalets and luxury tents. The tents even have en-suite bathrooms and kitchens. Paternoster is one of the oldest fishing villages, it might be a small village but it has plenty of things to do to keep you busy. The area offers Kayaking, hiking, swimming, fishing and horse riding. There are plenty of good food restaurants and beautiful holiday accommodation options. Most of all enjoy the peace and beauty of the surrounding area and coastline.
